Here at McAlpine, we are delighted to announce that we are now an accredited Living Wage Employer! Not heard what the real living wage is yet? It is simply the wage that is enough for people to really live on. Since we at McAlpine now have a living wage accreditation, we are able to voluntarily take a stand to ensure our employees can earn a liveable wage.
The real living wage is currently £8.75 per hour and is based on the cost of living. By us offering our employees this particular wage, we are going above and beyond the government minimum. Did you know that 467,000 people living in Scotland do not earn the real living wage, and 182,000 children in Scotland live in poverty despite having one person in their household in work; in-work poverty remains a problem throughout.
Being Real Living Wage Employers means happier, more content staff who are being paid what they deserve. It has also been recognised as being one of the main reasons behind a higher productivity rate within the working day. Meaning our high-quality output our customers have come to know and love will continue and who knows… potentially even improve!
As an employer, we are proud to be awarded the Living Wage employer mark, which we will be fully licensed to use to promote our accreditation and spread the word, we will also be promoting this on social media and will be attending Living Wage Week events during Living Wage Week in November each year.
This is a great step in a fantastic movement, and we look forward to sharing our accreditation benefits with each of our brilliant employees. Everyone deserves the right to the real living wage, and we can now work to make that happen for as many people in Scotland as possible.
