McAlpine & Co Ltd, the Glasgow-based plastic plumbing products manufacturer was awarded two top honours at the Herald Scottish Family Business Awards 2017 in association with Business Gateway, in Glasgow at the beginning of December. The first honour presented was for Scottish Family Business of the Year (Large). Founded in 1902, McAlpine takes pride in constant innovation and is widely acknowledged with developing a number of ‘firsts’ in its industry. With three manufacturing factories and a further five premises in the Glasgow area and ownership of a distributor in the US, the company employs over 750 people and manufactures over 4500 individual products.

With a worldwide distributor network, McAlpine exports specifically designed products to over eighty countries.The second honour the Outstanding Contribution Award is public recognition of the significant long-term contribution made by an individual who has played a key part in building and sustaining a company’s growth. This was awarded to Graham McAlpine. Graham has stewarded the Company for the last 55 years, and continues to do so at the age of 81. He plays a hands-on role in the family business and his dedication to the Company is second to none. McAlpine commenced manufacturing plumbing products in 1902 and in 1957 was the first UK company to manufacture Plastic Traps. As market leader, McAlpine has a reputation for producing innovative, high quality products determined by market conditions and customer demand.
